Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify the effectiveness of cognitive strategies in Enhancing mathematical proficiency and problem-solving skills among first-year middle school students in mathematics. The quasi-experimental approach was used, and the research sample consisted of (43) students. To achieve the research objectives, two tools were constructed: the mathematical proficiency test and the problem-solving test, and appropriate statistical methods were used for each of the two tests.The results showed the effectiveness of cognitive strategies in Enhancing mathematical proficiency and problem-solving skills among first-year middle school students, as the results showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in the mathematical proficiency and problem-solving tests. In light of these results, several recommendations were presented, including: adopting cognitive strategies as an effective teaching method, and holding training courses for teachers. Some proposals were also presented, including: conducting studies based on cognitive strategies in developing a set of skills among different samples of learners.
